Spicy Baja Black Bean Burger

Veggie Burgers aren't a big part of my diet , But I heard burgers are very popular in united states and was curious to try . Few months back in louisville , We tried this burger at smashburger . It was actually pretty good .

If you haven't tried then you must give it a try ! They smash and sear the burger patties and serve with their gourmet smash fries . The most yummy burger I ever had,So thought I would give a try at home. The original recipe calls for lots of oil and blue corn tortillas. I omitted it and made a easy one.

Spicy Baja Black Bean Burger
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Makes about: 6 Burgers

Ingredients
  • 1 Pack of Hamburger Buns
  • 3 tbsp. of Olive Oil
  • 2 tsp. of Garlic,Finely chopped
  • 1 Can of Canned Blackbeans,Rinsed and drained
  • 1 tsp of Lime Rind,Grated
  • 1/2 tsp of Oregano
  • Salt To taste
  • 1 Egg White,Lightly beaten
  • 6 Tomato Slices
  • 6 Onion Slices
  • 6 Monterey Jack Cheese Slices
  • 6 Romaine Lettuce Leaves
  • A Cup of Guacomole
  • 3 tbsp of Chipotle mayo
  • 1-2 Jalapenos,Finely chopped
  • 1/2 Cup cilantro Leaves,Finely Chopped
Method
  • Before making the burger , Lets make some preparations by cutting the slices of tomato, onion and few romaine lettuce leaves and make some guacamole in separate bowl and set aside.
  • Guacamole is very easy dip to make . Mash 2 avacados with fork and add some chopped tomatoes ,onion, coriander leaves and lemon juice n salt. The most delicious dip I ever ate in my life :)
  • Then I made the veggie black bean patties . Place 2 ounce Hamburger bun in food processor; Process until crumbs measure about 1 cup. Transfer into a bowl.
  •  Combine 1 tbsp of olive oil , 2 tsp of garlic (Optional) , a 15.5 ounce of black beans that have been rinsed and drained in food processor or blender until smooth thick paste.
  • Scrape the bean mixture and add to the bowl of crumbs . Stir in 1 tsp grated Lime rind, 3/4 tsp of red chili powder, 1/2 tsp of cumin powder , 1/2 tsp of oregano , 1/4 tsp of salt and 1 large lightly beaten egg White.
  • With moist hands, divide the bean mixture into 4 equal portions . Shape each portion into 3 inch-wide patty.
  • Heat remaining 2 tbsp oil in large skillet over medium high flame. Add patties to pan ; reduce heat to medium , and cook for few minutes until bottom edges are browned . Carefully turn patties over for another 2 minutes .
Serve this burger on bun with chipotle mayo ,romaine lettuce leaves, and slices of tomato, cheese ,guacamole and onion. It was so spicy and yummy !! Do try it out . It is very quick and homemade :)

My Notes
  • Canned beans are more convenient than the dried ones , but they come with higher sodium content . Please wash the beans in a colander and rinse them thoroughly with water before using them . This step decreases the sodium content of the beans by 40 percent.
  • Adding egg whites to the patties binds the ingredients . It is optional .
  • You can shape these patties in an hour in advance, cover and refrigerate them until you're ready to cook them .
