Poha is flattened rice used for making some delicious snacks . Khanda means onion and batata means potato in maharashtra. This dish origins from the state of maharashtra , very traditional food served in pune and bombay . I enjoyed my stay in pune having all these authentic foods . Here goes the recipe of simple poha :
Khanda Batata Poha (Onion Potato with Flattened Rice)
Ingredients
- 2 Cups of Thick Flattened Rice
- 1 Large Onion,Finely chopped
- 1 Potato, Finely chopped
- 1 tsp. of Mustard seeds
- 2-3 tsp of oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp of sugar
- 1/2 cup of roasted peanuts
- 5-6 Curry leaves
- few coriander leaves,finely chopped
- 1-2 tsp of lemon juice
- A pinch of Asafoetida
- 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
Method
- Take the poha into a colander and wash them two to three times in running water and set aside.
- Heat some oil in pan . Add mustard seeds to it and let it splutter and add some chopped onions and fry them till translucent
- Now add some potatoes and roasted peanuts and little salt to it and fry on low flame
- Meanwhile, add some turmeric powder ,salt and sugar to the poha and set them aside.
- Once potatoes are cooked, Add the poha to the tempering and mix well till the turmeric powder is mixed well .
- Check for salt and spices. You can add some chopped green chillies too. Its optional.
- Finally add some chopped coriander leaves and switch off the stove and add some lemon juice and serve hot.












I have not tried this way, but sure wish to try in future, the potatoes and peanuts should add a nice twist to it.
